Odd Taxi (Japanese, 2021)

A screaming voice pops out. You look around to see who’s talking. The voice is coming from the inside. You feel like you are one of the many participants in the plot. A haunting feeling of people talking from a fairyland. You mistake your planet or their planet for having free access to visit one another. The common force between these places is speaking your mind. Speaking your mind is not wrong. Not a point-deducting system on the social popularity graph.

The Eccentric Driver

Episode One (Amazon Prime)

We don’t make movie projects based on the oddness of things.

The oddity of life.

Everything is odd in a pleasant or unpleasant way.

The kind of effort we make to start a conversation and build a favorable environment around it is vehemently odd. You miss it once, and the person scans your history to label the conversation and why you were talking in a particular fashion.

The conversation becomes about you, not the topic or people in the topic.
They’re busy identifying your personality traits and matching up with resembling contents in the topic to make you look like a guilty or victim in it.

The First Scene: The Running Tap Water of Radio

Hiroshi Odokawa (Primary interest) is a taxi driver. The radio is the first hammer blow to our numb brains. Whatever was played on the radio, killed the distractions. We were brought into the action.

Boredom proves inspiring. The talk between strangers (a cabbie and a passenger) holds clues. The selfie with the passenger had another person in the background.

There is no other way to know a person, be it in life or a fictional character, than talking about things that come to your mind.

The talk, the unplanned ones, holds surprises in real life too.

Izayaka Time & The Clinic Visit.

The banter times and camaraderie sessions are a few dull moments to light the spark. All the other times, a script runs through the mouth. What’s unnerving about social gatherings? The loved ones make sharp observations. They rinse your soul and rupture your heart.

Some mysteries peep into the human mind, no other tragedy can.

Odd Taxi is a mystery drama. Where to hide the crime and secrets in the world- Drop them in conversations. The secret remains hidden and not everything can lead back to the original incident.

The mystery in Odd Taxi is excruciatingly human. That’s how it appears in the first episode. The underlying tone of Odokawa’s odd behavior, even among friends, makes it hard for people to read him.

Odokawa’s honesty is taken as arrogance. The plain truth is nobody likes honesty, which means Odokawa was true to his emotions and the basic human spirit. The first episode of Odd Taxi asks you to love things, no matter whether pleasant or unpleasant.

Watch Hiroshi Odokawa. To watch Odd Taxi or not, we need to know a bit about the series in the coming episodes.
